I'm sure it's easy to tell, but I'm a smoothie person. I've been making smoothies for years but they have gotten much greener and more exotic in the last several years. I blame Sip; a local juice and smoothie cart for getting me hooked on green smoothies.
At some point the 1970's Osterizer which my father purchased for my mother as a Christmas gift just couldn't manage the fibrous greens and sprouted nuts I hoped to pulverize.
Now, after years of pining we've finally gotten ourselves a Vita-Mix. The Vita-Mix can really power through any task I give it, and with much less prep than the dear old Osterizer required. The Vita-Mix also has a 64oz contained with means I can do more tasks and double up and make smoothies for two.
That being said it was a bit sad to pack the Osterizer away. It had been the blender I've used all my life, and it's still pretty tough stuff compared to many cheap modern blenders. We're still going to keep him around for travel and a spare incase we ever need to send the Vita-Mix out for repairs, but it's getting some well needed rest.
Now on to recipes!
This is a modified version on one I found on the Free People food blog; who knew a clothing company would have a fairly evolved food blog.
I really injoyed their Broccoli Smoothie but I found it to be a little too thick, so I modified it and here it is!
Broccoli Smoothie (makes two servings):
1 medium head Broccoli
1cup Fresh Flat Leaf Parsley (I've also used carrot tops with great success)
1 Ripe Bananas
1 Apple seeds removed
Juice from 1 Whole Lemon
2 pinches Sea Salt
12oz Almond Milk (also works great with just water)
2 cups Ice Cubes
Add all ingredients to a blender, blend until smooth, enjoy.
